Partnership
The purpose of the Partnership is the happiness of all its members through their worthwhile, secure and satisfying employment in a successful business. The Partnership aims to ensure that everyone who works for it enjoys the experience of ownership, by sharing in the profits, by having access to information and by sharing in decision-making.
All 69,000 permanent staff are Partners who own 27 Department stores, Waitrose, Greenbee, a production unit and a farm. Partners share in the benefits and profits of the business. As co-owners of the business, every Partner, regardless of their role or seniority, receive the same percentage of their annual pay as a bonus. In 2009, this was 13%.
The Partnership believes that the commitment of Partners to the business is a unique source of competitive advantage that has underpinned more that 75 years of profitable growth and a reputation amongst customers and suppliers unparalleled in the UK retail industry.
Contact the elderly
Contact the Elderly is a national charity which began in 1965 and now has numerous small groups around the Uk. With their volunteers they aim to make a real difference by helping to relieve the loneliness and isolation so often felt by very elderly and frail people living on their own.
One Sunday afternoon a month, volunteers use their cars to take elderly, house-bound people on regular visits to hosts’s homes where they enjoy a warm welcome, friendship and tea and cakes.
They are always looking for more volunteers to host a group twice a year or volunteers with cars to collect an elderly person and drive them to the host’s home.
